STAR Report
Standardized Testing and Reporting Program

There are three components to the STAR program in 1999: 1) the CAT 6 (California Achievement Tests Sixth Edition), administered to all students in grades 2 through 11; 2) the STAR augmentation in language arts and mathematics, administered to all students in grades 2 through 11, except for mathematics in grades 8, 9, and 10 where only students enrolled in certain mathematics classes were tested; and the Spanish Assessment of Basic Education, Second Edition (SABE/2), administered to Spanish speaking limited English proficient students. Scores are reported by grade level and content area for each school, district, county, and for the state for all three program components.

API
Academic Performance Index

The 2006 Academic Performance Index (API) scores continue to be some of the best scores in the State. A school’s API is a number that ranges from 200 to 1000 and is calculated from the results for each school’s students on last spring’s STAR test. The state has set 800 as the API target for all schools to meet.Del Mar’s API is the highest for a middle school in Marin County and competitive with top middle schools in other high performing counties. Bel Aire’s API is the highest for any school in our District since the API was first initiated in 1999. [More]

The Academic Performance Index (API) is a measurement of school achievement for accountability purposes as a result of the 1999 Public Schools Accountability Act (PSAA). More details about the PSAA and updates on related school accountability systems can be found on the PSAA web site.

Student Achievement Continues to Excel!

2009 - 2010 GATE / Talent Development (TaD) Program

The Reed Union School District has maintained a GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) program for many years.  From 2007 through 2009, a task force of teachers, parents, and administrators worked on the Specific Result in the District Strategic Plan, "Develop GATE program goals that provide and create opportunities and challenging extensions of the curriculum."  Members of the task force visited schools, listened to guest speakers, and studied the research on effective GATE programs.

Recognizing that currently 80%-90% of Reed Union School District (RUSD) students achieve at proficient or advanced levels, the Task Force work was guided by the Professional Learning Community question, "What do we do to challenge students who have already mastered essential curricular standards?"

The Talent Development (TaD) Task Force Report, May 2009 describes the results of the group’s research and implementation plan.  Please read this report for a detailed review of the RUSD Talent Development (TaD) Program.  The report provides a clear definition of the goals of the program and how it is implemented at each site.

Questions by parents regarding their children’s involvement in the TaD Program should be directed to the classroom teacher and the school principal.
