Strategic Goals Planning Process

July – August, 2015 – New Superintendent met with Board members, teachers, staff and parents to discuss areas of excellence in the District, as well as needs for further attention and support.  Two clear areas of needed support surfaced from those meetings:  explicit professional development in mathematical instructional practices and adoption of curriculum, and additional training and support in integrated technology that deepens student learning with an infrastructure that supports those practices.

September 25, 2015 – A team of educators representing each school met to brainstorm needs in the two focus areas of math instruction and integrated technology to enhance and improve learning.

November 2, 2015 – Parents, Board members, and staff representatives attended this district-wide planning session to receive feedback and input on the presented working plan that stemmed from the educator focus group.  The plan categories are curriculum and instruction, professional development, assessment, and community partnerships.

January 11-13, 2016 – Stakeholder meetings were held at school sites to solicit feedback on the site goal plans that included the two district focus areas, as well as 1-2 additional areas of concentration.

January – April, 2016 – Staff teams continued to work on revisions to Strategic Goals Plans and developed a template that aligned with Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) state priorities.  To ensure the Plans would be living documents that are narrow in focus, not all information was maintained in the final Plans.  However, the tremendous information and suggestions that came out of each of the meetings continues to guide the work at the district and site levels.

School and administrative teams reviewed LCAP goals approved in June 2015.  Analysis of data was conducted to determine whether goals had been met, and the formulation of new proposed goals, when appropriate.   The Strategic Goals were embedded into the Local Control Accountability Plan.

April 19, 2016 – The 2016-2018 district and school site Strategic Goals Plans were presented to Board of Trustees and adopted.  The information gathered from each of the stakeholder meetings guided the final goal documents.  Progress of Strategic Goals Plans will be monitored and reported to the Board of Trustees three times per year, including any adjustments or revisions, as necessary.
