STRATIC PLAN, PATHWAY TO REACHING OUR ASPIRATIONS

Over 30 members of the community including parents, former students, a Tiburon Town Council member, teachers, administrators, and the Board participated in the 12th annual Strategic Planning for the District last month.  The goal of Strategic Planning is to help us succeed in reaching our aspirations for our students.

What became clear once again through the course of the day is the shared commitment among our teachers, principals, parents, and the school board to inspire, engage, and challenge every student.  There is a tremendous amount of enthusiasm about what is possible - and that enthusiasm comes from not only our success in pushing our programs to new heights, but also from ideas shared about how to continue to make our programs even better.

While we have been, and expect to continue to be, affected by the ongoing state budget crisis, the District is in a solid position financially.  Our conservative financial planning approach allowed us to spend our time not discussing survival, as is the case in many schools, but rather on the future and what is most important in creating an even stronger environment for educational excellence for our kids.

The consensus this year was not to change the current Strategic Plan, given that a new superintendent will be coming on board and should lead any updates.  Next year the goal will be to rewrite the plan to reflect direction for future needs.  However, it was decided to begin Action Research on ways to build student resiliency so that an Action Plan could be build into next year's Strategic Plan.  Work will also be initiated on ways to gather feedback from our graduates.

There was also a healthy discussion about how the success of the school is so much more than just the school, the teacher, the students - that it is the building of a connected community where families, teachers, administrators, the school board, and community members each play an essential role in creating an environment where learning thrives.  Parents are to be commended for their involvement and partnership helping us to create dynamic learning environments for all students.

The Strategic Plan can be viewed on the District website.
